How is your posture affecting your health?
Most people agree that the concept of "good posture" is important, whether from a functional perspective or even just for cosmetic appeal. Despite this, few health care practitioners focus on posture, both with regards to the attainment and development of good posture and its influence on health.
Researchers are improving our understanding of how vital our posture is to good health and function. As found by American researchers in the 1990s, "observations of the striking influence of postural mechanics on function and symptomatology have led to our hypothesis that posture affects and moderates every physiologic function, from breathing to normal hormonal production. Spinal pain, headache, mood, blood pressure, pulse, and lung capacity are among the functions most easily influenced by posture. The most significant influences of posture are upon respiration, oxygenation, and sympathetic function. Ultimately, it appears that homeostasis and autonomic regulation are intimately connected with posture. The corollary of these observations is that many symptoms, including pain, may be moderated or eliminated by improved posture."
At PostureHQ, we will show you the connection between your symptoms and your posture. We will show how improvements in your posture don't just alleviate your symptoms, they change and dismiss them for good. And we will show you the way to improve your postural alignment in such a way as to support good function and good health.
